What is Guru?
Guru is a knowledge management platform that helps teams organize and access the information they need to work efficiently. Guru functions as a single source of truth for company information cutting through the noise in a world of information overload.
A Tediously Static Experience
Prior to this project Guru users had to sift through an overwhelming amount of information to find what they were looking for, much of which was irrelevant to their search. There was no technology in place that would allow the system to have a better sense of who they were and what they might be looking for in order to assist them.
Enter, Personalization
We knew there was data in the product that would allow the system to serve users more tailored content. I led research sessions with cross functional colleagues as well as customers in order to understand what would have the greatest impact on the users and the business.
Opportunity areas
Through our research we identified several areas of opportunity, some that involved data science support, some that did not, which allowed us to launch several features into the product while the data science team was building a personalization AI model.
Opportunity areas:
Allowing users to follow content they find valuable and be notified about changes to that content
Allowing users to follow authors who’s content they find valuable
Creating an AI powered recommendations experience
3 Personalization Feature Sets
Implementing my iterative process of creating low fidelity designs, prototypes, and final designs, our team was able to launch 3 large, complex feature sets to support this initiative.
1. Tailored Recommendation Feed
With the introduction of the "Recommended for You" feed, Guru became a beacon of tailored content. Through innovative algorithms, users are now served content aligns with their interests, eliminating the need for aimless navigation.
2. Opt-in Control for End Users
We launched features like "Follow a Card" and "Follow an Author," empowering users to stay connected to evolving content and creators. These initiative ensured users remain at the forefront of knowledge updates.
The data from these features also provided key data points that were inputs for the personalization model.
3. Curated Personal Libraries
In my role, I championed the creation of "My Library," a personalized space where users could curate their most valuable content. Seamlessly integrated with recommended material, this feature transformed user libraries into dynamic hubs of knowledge.
Redefining User Journeys
At Guru, personalization isn't just a feature – it's a testament to our commitment to user-centric design. Through my leadership and collaborative efforts, we've ushered in a new era where interactions are tailored and every user journey is uniquely enriching.
As the architect of these initiatives, I led Guru into uncharted territories, not only enhancing user experiences but also advancing technological capabilities. Through ongoing user dialogue and relentless dedication, we transformed personalization from a vision into a reality.
